Today, the editorial board members came together to explore using viusal arts - paintings, drawings, and photographs - to convey messages about disabilities. With every picture being worth a thousand words, our members had a lot to say - lots of images and ideas to increase awareness of disability-related issues. Here are some examples:

Stand out from the crowd

Overcome obstacles

Adapt

Everyone is colorful

Be who you want to be

See the person, not the disability

Thirst for knowledge
Horse of a different color
Happiness

Communicate

Come together

Helping hands

Gift

Stand together

Soaring with friends

Take a second look

Don't be walled in

Inspire

Unique

Strength

Advantage

Opportunity

Challenge

  1. Your art work is fantastic! You have each (and all together) covered so many disabilities awareness issues that are so difficult to put into words. Each one of the pictures and paintings is worth far more than a 1000 words. They must total close to a million thought provoking words about people with disabilities. It is impossible to pick my "favorite." I am awe struck by each one. Good work, students.

  2. I'm a little confused about what some of your pictures, although terrific, say about disability. "Happiness", for example, what's the message there? And "gift", although a clever shadow picture, how does that relate to disability? More narrative is needed, I guess, before your pictures will speak to me about disability.

    1. Gift refers to how each person is gifted in their own way, disabled or not. Also, happiness signifies how even though one may have a disability, they still can be happy. I hope this helped.

  4. What a great message to send to children of all ages. This really touched me, as my son has a learning disability. However, I taught him to never allow it to stop him and now he will begin attending Yale Law School in the fall. Thank you so much for this message, and I hope that you post more often in the future. What an inspiring blog!

    God Bless,
