The people we connect with can teach us. When we connect with a classmate's ability to do something we can't do, we learn. Students with disabilities are students with abilities too. Look for what your classmates can do, not what they can't do.
Yeah, I see what you mean. I'd like someone to know what I'm capable of before they find out what I'm not so good at. In fact, I try to hide what I'm not good at. Most often kids with disabilities can't hide what they're not good at, especially in school. That must be hard - knowing every day that their classmates are going to get a good look at their disability and maybe turn away before they see that they can play soccer like a star.

ReplyDeletei agree. it must be difficult. i think people should treat people and kids with disabilities like people, and realize that they are only human.
