Americans With Disabilities Act

I have never heard of the Americans with Disabilities Act until yesterday, and I am blind! Disability is defined by the ADA as "...a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity."  The Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in 1990.  The Americans with Disabilities Act was created to protect individuals with different disabilities.  The law prohibits employers from discriminating against people with disabilities.   People with a disability can apply for jobs and have equal opportunity for any employment. It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications.  Researching the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, I have learned that the ADA protects individuals’ rights, freedom, and equal opportunity!

Yan Martel says, “Guiding animals is one way to guide a blind person.” This means he is trying to get people who have a disability some help. The story started after 9/11. The story started when he heard a tremendous explosion.
Michael was at his house. Roselle was quivering, shaking, and nervous. It was 1:00AM. He sat up and patted Roselle on her back. He went downstairs to the basement. Michael turned on his computer to do some work. He turned the radio up loud enough to muffle the sound of the thunder. When the thunder was over, he and Roselle went back to bed.
Michael woke up to the sound of his alarm going off at 5AM. He let Roselle out and then he went back inside to eat his breakfast. When he was finished, he got ready and got Roselle ready to go. His guide dog helped him get to the World Trade Center. Michael helped unpacked breakfast for his conference. He left his computer in the office when he heard the explosion. Everyone had to evacuate the building. They descended down 1,643 stairs.
He was born in 1950. Too much oxygen therapy caused him to be blind. He was totally blind. He had things in Braille. When he got in high school, he had his geometry teacher, Mr. Herbo. He lived in Palmdale California in a nice house. When Michael was 6, His neighbor called his parents because he was out riding his bike alone. Eventually, Neighbors got used to a blind person riding his bike. The parents ignored the neighbors. The character, Cindy, taught Michael how to ride a bike. His parents bought him his own bike.
